Digital Health Applied Leadership Program graduates celebrate their achievements
By: Digital Square
Digital Square would like to extend its warmest congratulations to the 2023 class of the Digital Health Applied Leadership Program (DHALP). On May 8, 2023, the inaugural cohort of participants from Cameroon, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Guinea, and Zimbabwe gathered virtually to celebrate the past year of their hard work and dedication. This milestone is a moment of thanks, celebration, and excitement.
With support from esteemed coaches and instructors, 41 participants completed this year-long executive education program stewarded by Digital Square and led by the University of Global Health Equity in Rwanda. The two-part program coupled a didactic portion with a practical capstone project carried out in country teams, enabling participants to gain the skills and expertise needed to successfully lead and execute a digital health initiative for health systems strengthening.
Key takeaways from DHALP graduates
Who better to hear about the experience in DHALP than the participants themselves? Below, each country team shared a reflection on their capstone projects and experience in the program.
A distinguished community of funders and partners
Digital Square would like to acknowledge the contributions of all funders and partners that were essential to the success of the program. Key partners include the US Agency for International Development, the US President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief, and the US President’s Malaria Initiative. The program partners are grateful for early funding from the Patrick J. McGovern Foundation, commissioning by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), co-financing from the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), and implementation by German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ).
Future plans for DHALP leaders
A country’s digital health system can only be as strong as the collective actions of its leaders. In the wake of continuous technological advancements, leaders need to become lifelong learners and gain a strong foundation in digital health theory and practice. Digital Square will continue to harness the potential of digital health leaders through DHALP and plans to scale the program in other regions across Africa and Asia.
Later this year, Digital Square will also conduct an evaluation that will support iterations and updates for future cohorts. Follow us on Twitter or LinkedIn for future updates.
